PROJECTS WITH GENIALLY. 4º ESO

Stages for the preparation of the Project:

Topic: Since we had been studying vocabulary related to the city and activities, I suggested that they did their projects on a city (any city in the world) that they chose and they were interested in visiting or had visited and found it interesting.
Student’s grouping: most students chose to work on their own, since with the present situation (COVID), they weren’t allowed to go to other classmates’ homes.
Information that had to be included in the project. We brainstormed (whole class) the information that they thought had to be included in their presentations and, finally, we made a list with the items we found more relevant.
Then, and with the help of some students who were already familiar with Genially, we showed in class how to register in Genially and how to use its different functions and modalities.
Lastly, we set a deadline (before the final exams) to submit their projects and shifts (5 students or groups every day, in alphabetical order) for the oral presentations in class.

Additional materials:

Some leaflets and texts were read in class with information about different cities in the world. I uploaded the instructions, items to be included, minimum and maximum time speaking (5-10 minutes) and rubric in Google Classroom, in the task created for the project.

Reflection:

It has been a fun activity that the students have enjoyed. They have been able to make decisions, be creative, search and organize information, write it and summarise the main ideas and, finally, the challenge of speaking in English in front of the class. I think it is good practice, even when for the most reluctant or shy students this last stage of the presentation was difficult. What I would change is the grouping, since with the present pandemic situation it is not advisable to work in groups, but I think this would have motivated and engaged the students even more and they would also have learned and benefited from team work.
