PROJECTS WITH PIXTON

PROJECTS WITH PIXTON.

·         Grouping.

The students worked in pairs. Each member of the group could play a role in a comic they were going to create.

 ·         Sequence of tasks.

I explained them the basic structure of the plot of stories: beginning, climax and denouement. Then, I explained them how to create a very simple story about bullying and I made an example myself in Pixton as an example for them.

 ·         Learning objectives

The learning objectives for this activity were to have the students write a story, organizing their ideas first, being creative and making use of their grammatical knowledge and vocabulary that they had already learned. Also, the correct use of connectors and expressions of time and place was emphasized.

Another learning objective was to make them aware of the problem of bullying at schools.

 ·         Creativity

The students had to create their own story, based on an experience that they had had or heard about or just make up a story. The idea of creating a comic themselves was encouraging and motivating for the students.

 ·         Student’s reactions and reflection

They enjoyed learning how easy it was to create a comic, and they wrote the story almost without realizing they were writing in English.

For next time, I will try and book the ICT room for one or two hours. This way, the students will be able to work in their comics in class instead of at home.

  ·         Finished projects and sharing with the rest of the class

By using the Digital board, I showed the finished projects to the rest of the groups during the class after the deadline for submitting their projects.

 ·         Co-evaluation

With the same rubric that I gave them to evaluate their work, they evaluated the other group’s projects and the average of their marks made up 30% of the final grade for each group (the remaining 70% was the mark that I gave them). Of course, they commented on the ones they liked the most, why, and so on.
